Learn psychotherapy
…‘Psychodynamic’ describes how the psyche is continuously active, constantly humming with life, with feelings and thoughts, both when we are awake and when we are asleep, even when we are seriously focusing on reading a book: memories are recalled, feelings are aroused, ideas tumble around.” – Michael Jacobs
In this program, you will learn the process of psychotherapy through a psychodynamic lense. How to start, what to say, when to say it, the middle phase, what to do when therapy seems stuck, and how to approach the termination of the therapy. You will also learn the psychoanalytic concepts of projection, transference & countertransference, defense mechanisms, resistance and more. One of the goals of this program is to learn how these concepts show up in therapy and what to do about it. The program is highly practical, therefore, it is recommended that students have some counseling experience. This program is not recommended for school leavers or as an initial foray into counseling education.
